Is back surgery painful?

29 Oct 2013
Jennifer Edwards

Any surgical procedure is associated with a certain degree of pain due to the cutting and suturing of tissues. You should expect a certain amount of discomfort in the skin and muscles along your spine right after your operation. Your doctor or other care providers will suggest ways to relieve post-operative pain such as medication, ice and heat. As you recover, you may still find certain body positions more comfortable than others and can use these to help ease your symptoms.
