How long will I be in the hospital?

29 Oct 2013
Jennifer Edwards

This varies from patient to patient. A simple discectomy, for example, is now done as same-day surgery, with the patient sent home a few hours after the procedure. Other more complex operations such as a long decompression or an extensive fusion may require you to be admitted to the hospital. If you’re having major spine surgery, expect to be in the hospital for a few days until you regain your strength and are ready to manage at home.
